Coolant level sensor active for 5+ seconds. Check reservoir and inspect for leaks.
Coolant loss through a slow external leak (hose, radiator, water pump)
Internal coolant leak (head gasket failure — coolant burns off or mixes with oil)
Normal evaporation from the overflow reservoir over time
Faulty coolant level sensor — false alarm
Improper coolant mixture (too dilute, freezes and cracks components)
Radiator pressure cap failure allowing coolant to escape under pressure
Step-by-step workflow
⚠️ DANGER: Never open the radiator cap on a hot engine. The XG series cooling system operates at 15–18 PSI. Pressurized hot coolant can erupt and cause severe burns. Allow 45–60 minutes minimum.
The XG series has a translucent coolant overflow reservoir with MIN/MAX markings. Check the level when the engine is cold.
Look for coolant staining (orange/green deposits or puddles) around: all coolant hoses and clamps, radiator core, water pump housing and weep hole, thermostat housing, and beneath the generator.
If coolant level is confirmed correct but the 2720 alarm persists, the coolant level sensor may be faulty.
After topping up coolant and addressing any leaks, clear the alarm.
After reset
The code cleared and the unit returned to standby. Log the incident, confirm ready-to-run status, and monitor the next exercise cycle.
If the code returns immediately, stop resetting and move into service. The issue likely needs inspection of wiring, switches, or a controller-level component.
Prevention
Inspect the overflow reservoir monthly. Any drop between checks indicates a developing leak.
Inspect all hoses, clamps, and the radiator cap annually. Replace hoses every 5 years.
