Safety first

⚠ SAFETY FIRST: Always press OFF on the PZ410 before inspecting components — this prevents automatic starts. Disconnect battery (negative lead first) before touching wiring. This generator can auto-start.

Overview

What 2800 / 2801 means

Emergency stop or front-panel AUX shutdown rocker was activated.

Auxiliary shutdown rocker switch on PZ410 front panel moved to OFF position

Emergency stop button (H) on PZ410 front panel accidentally pressed

External E-stop button pressed (optional NFPA module)

Auxiliary shutdown rocker accidentally bumped during servicing or cleaning

Rocker switch internal contact failure — triggering fault without being pressed

Wiring fault on the auxiliary shutdown circuit (J5, pins 19–21)

Step-by-step workflow

Follow the diagnostic and reset sequence

1

Check the AUX SHUTDOWN Rocker Switch on PZ410 Front Panel

CHECK

Locate the Auxiliary Shutdown rocker switch on the top right of the PZ410 front panel. Verify it is in the I (ON/closed) position. If it is in the O (OFF/open) position — this is the cause.

The rocker switch is labeled 'AUXILIARY SHUTDOWN' on the PZ410 panel. It must be in the I (closed circuit) position for the generator to run. If found in the O position, flip it to I and then clear the alarm.
2

Check the Emergency Stop Button (H)

CHECK

The red E-Stop button (labeled H on the front panel diagram) is a push-to-stop mushroom button. If it was pressed, it will be in the depressed/latched position.

If the E-Stop button appears pressed/latched, twist it clockwise to release (most mushroom E-stop buttons release by twisting). Confirm the button has returned to its normal raised position before proceeding.
3

Cycle the Rocker Switch OFF Then Back ON

ACTION

Even if the rocker appears to be in the ON position, cycle it: move to O (OFF), wait 3 seconds, then move back to I (ON). This clears any contact contamination.

Rocker switch contacts can develop corrosion or carbon buildup over time, creating an intermittent open circuit that triggers 2801 without the switch being visibly moved. Cycling the switch clears the contacts.
4

Clear the Alarm

RESET

After confirming the rocker is in ON position and the E-stop is released, clear the alarm.

Navigate to Alarm Screen (⚠ on home screen) → use ↑/↓ to scroll → press STOP then ENTER to clear → press AUTO. The PZ410 should return to standby 'Ready to Run' status.

After reset

Did the code clear?

Yes — code cleared

The code cleared and the unit returned to standby. Log the incident, confirm ready-to-run status, and monitor the next exercise cycle.

No — code returned

If the code returns immediately, stop resetting and move into service. The issue likely needs inspection of wiring, switches, or a controller-level component.

Prevention

Best practices and next checks

Post-Service Switch Check

Always verify the AUX SHUTDOWN rocker is in I (ON) after any service, cleaning, or inspection of the PZ410 panel.

Include in Monthly Inspection

Visually confirm rocker switch position and E-stop button (raised/not pressed) during monthly generator checks.

Keep Panel Clean and Dry

Moisture and debris on the front panel can cause rocker switch contact issues. Keep the enclosure weathertight.

Replace Aging Rocker Switch

If 2801 alarms recur without the switch being visibly moved, the internal contacts are failing — replace the rocker switch.
