Safety first

⚠ SAFETY FIRST: Always press OFF on the PZ410 before inspecting components — this prevents automatic starts. Disconnect battery (negative lead first) before touching wiring. This generator can auto-start.

Overview

What 2680 / 2681 / 2690 means

Fuel at 20% (warning), 10% (shutdown), or gas pressure below 5.2 in H₂O.

Propane tank running low — below 20% for 2680, below 10% for 2681

Manual gas shutoff valve partially or fully closed

LP regulator failure — not maintaining adequate pressure

Natural gas supply pressure drop during peak demand

Frozen propane regulator in cold weather

Fuel sender/float failure — false low reading

Clogged fuel filter or fuel lines

Step-by-step workflow

Follow the diagnostic and reset sequence

1

Check Tank Level and Order Fuel

CHECK

For a 2680 or 2681 code, the propane tank is at 20% or below. This is the primary cause — order fuel immediately.

Do not wait for 2681 (10%) to order — a 20% propane tank in summer has very little vapor pressure. In cold weather, even a 30% tank may not supply adequate pressure under heavy load. Schedule auto-delivery or set a fill reminder when the tank drops to 30%.
2

Verify All Manual Gas Shutoffs Are OPEN

CHECK

Confirm that all inline manual shutoff valves between the propane tank/meter and the generator are fully open (handle parallel to the pipe).

It is common for a shutoff to be accidentally partially closed during landscaping work, meter readings, or after service visits. Even a partially closed valve significantly restricts flow under load.
3

Check for Low Gas Pressure (2690 Code)

ACTION

For code 2690, the gas pressure at the generator inlet has dropped below 5.2 in H₂O (0.19 psi). This can occur with correct tank level if the regulator is failing or if NG supply pressure is low.

For propane: check that the first-stage regulator (at the tank) and second-stage regulator (at the generator or house) are functioning. A frozen or failed regulator restricts flow even with a full tank. For NG: contact your gas utility to confirm supply pressure at the meter.
4

Clear Alarm After Fuel is Replenished

RESET

Once fuel is at adequate level and pressure, clear the alarm.

Alarm Screen → ↑/↓ → STOP + ENTER → press AUTO. For 2681, the engine will not auto-restart until the alarm is cleared after refueling. For 2680 and 2690 (warnings), the unit continues running but should be addressed promptly.

After reset

Did the code clear?

Yes — code cleared

The code cleared and the unit returned to standby. Log the incident, confirm ready-to-run status, and monitor the next exercise cycle.

No — code returned

If the code returns immediately, stop resetting and move into service. The issue likely needs inspection of wiring, switches, or a controller-level component.

Prevention

Best practices and next checks

Enroll in Auto-Delivery

Set up automatic propane delivery — never let the tank drop below 30% heading into storm season.

Pre-Season Fuel Check

Before hurricane season (June 1), confirm tank is above 70% and schedule a fill if needed.

Annual Regulator Inspection

Have the propane regulator and all gas line fittings inspected annually for leaks and wear.
