Safety first

⚠ SAFETY FIRST: Always press OFF on the PZ410 before inspecting components — this prevents automatic starts. Disconnect battery (negative lead first) before touching wiring. This generator can auto-start.

Overview

What 2100 / 2101 / 2111 / 2112 means

Output current exceeded rated capacity. Shed loads or check for short circuit.

Too many appliances running simultaneously — load exceeds rated kW

Large motor startup surge (central A/C, well pump, electric motors)

Short circuit in connected wiring or appliances (especially 2111/2112)

Ground fault in connected wiring

Generator undersized for the critical load panel

Faulty CT (current transformer) sensors — false overload reading

Step-by-step workflow

Follow the diagnostic and reset sequence

1

Shed All Large Loads Immediately

ACTION

Go to your electrical panel and turn OFF breakers for: central A/C, electric dryer, electric range, electric water heater, well pump. The PZ410 Power Screen Page 2 shows live current per phase — check for imbalance.

Priority OFF: central A/C (especially 3+ ton units), any appliance with a large motor or heating element. Keep ON: refrigerator, lights, medical equipment. For 2111/2112 codes — also check if a circuit breaker in the home tripped, indicating a potential short circuit.
2

Clear Alarm and Re-add Loads One at a Time

RESET

After shedding loads, clear the alarm and restart. Add loads back one appliance at a time with at least 30 seconds between each.

Alarm Screen → ↑/↓ → STOP + ENTER → press AUTO. Watch Power Screen Page 2 (current per phase) and Page 3 (kW) as you add loads. If overload returns at a specific appliance → that appliance is the culprit or is drawing excessive current (possible internal fault).

Check for Short Circuits (2111/2112 Codes)

CHECK

If overload persists with minimal load, or a 2111/2112 code appeared, inspect for short circuits in the home's wiring.

Turn off all circuit breakers in the home's panel. Clear the alarm and attempt to start. If overload immediately reappears with no house loads → the fault is in the generator itself. If it starts normally → add house circuits back one breaker at a time to identify the shorted circuit.
4

Check for Load Imbalance on 3-Phase Units

CHECK

On 3-phase XG generators, check Power Screen Page 2 for current balance across phases A, B, and C. Severe imbalance (one phase much higher than others) indicates uneven load distribution or a partial short.

Balanced loading should show roughly equal current on all three phases. If one phase is significantly higher, redistribute loads across the panel or check for a wiring fault on that phase.

After reset

Did the code clear?

Yes — code cleared

The code cleared and the unit returned to standby. Log the incident, confirm ready-to-run status, and monitor the next exercise cycle.

No — code returned

If the code returns immediately, stop resetting and move into service. The issue likely needs inspection of wiring, switches, or a controller-level component.

Know Your kW — Use the PZ410 Power Screen

Monitor live kW output during the weekly exercise run. This is your real load profile.

Install Generac Smart Management Modules

SMMs automatically manage large loads during generator operation — especially A/C compressors.

Stage Large Motor Loads

Never start the A/C and well pump simultaneously — stagger large motor starts by 30+ seconds.
