Switch locations
Switch #1 — Exterior (All Models) Located on the back of the generator cabinet, just below the roof line near the electrical connections. Small black button or knob. Must be in the ON / "I" position.
Switch #2 — Interior (15 kW+ Units Only) Located inside the control access panel on the black firewall panel, upper right corner. Units 14 kW and under typically have only 1 switch.
Step-by-step workflow
Confirm the controller is displaying Error Code 2800 (Auxiliary Shutdown). On Evolution/Nexus controllers this appears on the digital display. Check the Generac Mobile Link app if connected — it will log the fault with a timestamp.
Open the generator's control access panel. Locate the Manual / Auto / Off selector on the controller and press OFF before touching any switches or wiring.
Locate each E-stop switch on your unit. Verify each is in the ON position (marked "I"). An open or "O" position will trigger Error 2800.
Even if switches appear to be in the ON position, cycle each one: press to OFF, wait 3 seconds, then press back to ON. This clears any contact contamination or borderline open circuits that may not be visible to the eye.
On the controller keypad, navigate to the alarm/fault screen. Press ENTER (or OFF then ENTER depending on controller version) to clear the active fault code. The display should confirm the alarm has cleared.
Press the controller back to AUTO. The unit should return to standby mode within 10 seconds, indicated by a steady green light. Confirm status in the Mobile Link app — status should read "Ready to Run."
After reset
The code cleared and the unit returned to standby. Log the incident, confirm ready-to-run status, and monitor the next exercise cycle.
If the code returns immediately, stop resetting and move into service. The issue likely needs inspection of wiring, switches, or a controller-level component.
Prevention
Always confirm all E-stop switches are in the ON position after any service, inspection, or cleaning of the generator.
